5 Essential Cocktails Every Modern Military Man Needs To Know How To Make
Summer is upon us and with it comes porch and rooftop drinking. Be a Modern Military Man and trade up from beer for one of these essential cocktails. And no we’re not talking about something with a straw and an umbrella in it. Unless you’re still in college its time to stop ordering well whiskey and cokes and start at least drinking like an adult (even if you don’t act like one).
C’mon you know you want to be Don Draper. Maybe the infidelity and blatant alcoholism isn’t really your thing but you can at least drink like a real man. An Old Fashioned is simple and timeless i.e. has been cool since before your Grandpa was knocking them back. They’re incredibly easy to make too which is why it’s so frustrating when bars don’t prepare them correctly. We’ll give you a hint, if there’s an orange or a cherry muddled in your drink they don’t know what they’re doing and you need to find a new cocktail bar.
Named after the most famous borough of The Big Apple, a Manhattan is another classic drink that all men need to know how to make. Supposedly it predates even the Martini and once again is incredibly easy to make.
If you’re high brow or pretend to be at all then a martini is an absolute necessity. 3 Martini lunches are what we all aspire towards and what all those guys on Wall Street who make a lot more money than us do on the regular. Don’t mind anyone who scoffs you for drinking one of these or doesn’t consider this a “manly” drink because they most certainly have never branched out to drink anything more adventurous than the Bud Light Lime they have sitting at home.
Brunch. Plain and simple. If you don’t love Brunch you are wrong and will eventually learn the error in your ways. A Bloody Mary is a brunch staple and especially amazing because its good for you! That’s right, it has a bunch of vegetables in it…and sometimes bacon, oh and a lot of vodka. Remember the vegetables though!
The Mint Julep is a southern staple that finally has achieved the popularity it deserves. Though best enjoyed while wearing a seersucker suit at the Kentucky Derby, Mint Juleps are perfect for anything ranging from day drinking to a night cap. On a hot summer day don’t reach for a cold one, take the extra two minutes and make something that your taste buds will truly appreciate.
